Early Events
1980
- Roger Sippl and Laura King form Relational Database Systems (RDS).
1981
- RDS released Informix (INFORMation on unIX), which included the Informer language, the ACE report writer to extract and present data from the database, and the PERFORM screen form tool for querying and editing data.
1985
- RDS introduced a new SQL-based query engine as part of INFORMIX-SQL (or ISQL) version 1.10.
1986
- The newly christened Informix Software went public with a successful IPO.
2001
- IBM completes $1 billion acquisition of Informix database assets, doubling IBM’s distributed data business.
- IBM ships IDS V9.3 in October, followed in 2002 by Informix Dynamic Server V7.31, Informix Extended Parallel Server V8.4 and Informix Red Brick Warehouse V6.2 releases.
Recent Developments
2005
- IBM releases Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) 10.
2007
- IDS 11 (code-named "Cheetah") debuts.
2008
- The International Informix Users Group holds its first all-Informix conference since the IBM acquisition. The conference, held near the Informix lab in Lenexa, Kansas, was a near sell-out in attendance and sponsorship.
- IBM announces "Cheetah 2," more formally known as IDS 11.5, at the IIUG conference.
