Early Events
1965
- The Pick operating system, of which IBM UniVerse and UniData are offshoots, is implemented as the Generalized Information Retrieval Language System (GIRLS) on an IBM System/360 as helicopter-parts inventory control system for the U.S. Army.
1985
- UniVerse is created at VMARK Systems.
1988
- UniData is created by UniData Corp.
The Acquisition Years
1998
- Ardent Software was created from the merger of VMARK Systems and UniData Corp.
2000
- Informix acquires Ardent Software.
2001

Recent Developments
2007
- IBM announced a beta program for UniData 7.2.
